How the Arts Council is helping artists be creative in a time of Covid | Ireland

Many Irish creatives made use of their unexpected free time during the coronavirus lockdown to brush up on their skills, write songs, paint or finally get the draft of a novel down on paper. Michael-David McKernan was no different, but his personal document of the pandemic has become public for an unusual reason.

The Co Meath actor and film-maker was one of 334 artists to receive a grant from the Arts Council via its €1m Covid-19 Crisis Response Award, set up in April to support artists and to get original material into the public sphere. He put the €3,000 grant into his second short film, How to Fall in Love in a Pandemic, which recently won Best Short Documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh.
