Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the third consecutive year, the Middle Tennessee volleyball team was selected by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as a 2019-2020 Team Academic Award recipient on Monday.

Seven Blue Raiders finished the spring semester with a 4.0 GPA and four others earned a 3.5-3.9 to round off the year with a team cumulative GPA of 3.73.

Taylor Hammill and Bri Tankesley, who were both named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team in the fall, are amongst those players who finished with a spring GPA of 4.0. Both Hammill and Tankesley did so while pursuing challenging majors such as mechatronics engineering and exercise science. Other majors chosen by Blue Raiders include biology, marketing and business, just to name a few.

“I am incredibly proud of our student athletes as they continue to push the academic excellence within our program,” said Head Coach Chuck Crawford. “We also set a program record with a team grade point average of 3.73 for the 2019-2020 school year.”

This is the third time the Blue Raiders have received this award under the helm of Crawford.
