Maharashtra government has extended the lockdown in the state till July 31 as the COVID-19 cases continue to rise. On Monday, Maharashtra recorded another massive surge of 5,257 fresh cases on Monday, taking the State’s tally to 1.69 lakh. The coronavirus tally in Mumbai also increased to 76,294 with the addition of 1,247 new cases. Several districts in the state have started imposing a stringent lockdown, with Thane being one of the first to announce a complete shutdown for 10 days even as Uddhav Thackeray said ‘Mission Begin Again’. The BMC has also started levying fines of Rs 1000 on those not wearing a mask. The country’s tally has increased to 5.66 lakh.
